Mrs. Mary Ruth Fleming Corriher, 76 of China Grove, passed away on March 28, 2015 at CMC Northeast. Born on January 3, 1939 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Albert Henderson Fleming and Eva Nell Shook Fleming. She was a 1957 graduate of Woodleaf High School and an 1961 graduate of Erskine College with a BS Degree in Home Economics. She received her vocational teaching certificate from UNCG in 1962. Professionally, she taught at Corriher-Lipe Middle School from 1961-1971, and was a substitute for the Rowan-Salisbury School System from 1985-2002. Earlier...

Mrs. Mary Ruth Fleming Corriher, 76 of China Grove, passed away on March 28, 2015 at CMC Northeast. Born on January 3, 1939 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Albert Henderson Fleming and Eva Nell Shook Fleming. She was a 1957 graduate of Woodleaf High School and an 1961 graduate of Erskine College with a BS Degree in Home Economics. She received her vocational teaching certificate from UNCG in 1962. Professionally, she taught at Corriher-Lipe Middle School from 1961-1971, and was a substitute for the Rowan-Salisbury School System from 1985-2002. Earlier in life, she attended Unity Presbyterian Church in Woodleaf, where she taught Sunday School, was the pianist and sang in the choir. Later she joined Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, she was active in many areas including; teaching Sunday School, bible school and pre-school, served as president of the Women's Guild and was active in the Myers Circle.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Nathan and Wilson Fleming, and sister Eva Nell Fleming Corriher. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Murray A. Corriher, to whom she was married for 46 years, her son Dwight Corriher of China Grove and daughter Rachel Rawlings and husband Brian of China Grove. In addition, she was survived by her brother Walter Fleming and granddaughters, Madison and Avery Rawlings.


Visitation will be on Monday from 7:00 pm til 9:00 at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ of China Grove. The funeral service will be held by Rev. Mark Burns on Tuesday at 11:00 am at Mt. Zion UCC.
