Mr. Otho Brown Sloop 91 of Salisbury passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at the Laurels of Salisbury. Born on July 7, 1926 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Neri Crawford and Margaret Felker Sloop. A graduate of China Grove High School, he was an active lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he had served on the church council, chairman of the property committee, superintendent of the Sunday School, coached and played on the church softball team . Mr. Otho Brown Sloop 91 of Salisbury passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at the Laurels of Salisbury. Born on July 7, 1926 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Neri Crawford and Margaret Felker Sloop. A graduate of China Grove High School, he was an active lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he had served on the church council, chairman of the property committee, superintendent of the Sunday School, coached and played on the church softball team . He also played in the Yadkin Valley Baseball League for the Patterson Community. He was a retired fireman with Locke Fire Department. Mr. Sloop served his country in the US Army serving, during WWII and Korea. He was an active member of the American Legion in Kannapolis. He retired from Cannon Mills after many years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife of 60 years, Hazel Overcash Sloop. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Sharon Ritchie (Jeff) of Salisbury and Teresa Yost (Richard) of China Grove as well as his brother Crawford "Junior"
Sloop, grandchildren, Caitlin Ritchie-Lane (Becky), Brent Yost (Beth), Cody Ritchie (Nicole) and Derek Yost. His great grandchildren are Hunter Ritchie and Maggie Lane.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30 til 11:00 at Grace Lutheran Church with funeral following at 11:00 am, also at the church with Rev. Jerome Cloninger, minister. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Family Life Center or Grace Lutheran Men In Mission 3020 Grace Church Rd. Salisbury, NC 28147.
